Heating oil based finish to 120 degrees is supposed to help penetrate in a typical application, but i don’t think that it’s the answer to the cold weather problem…the wood is cold, the warm finish may penetrate initially, but then it’ll cool down to the same temp as the climate it’s in and won’t dry/set well… inside is the answer!. This works good in the cold weather however its not necessarily the finish i would prefer on some of my turnings. i have also used danish oil by applying in the shop and then bringing the turning into the house for a few days to cure (we keep the house at 68 all winter so curing is a slow process at best)..
